Started page for tips. Our
Board
Connection program helps you take a leadership
role in the community by matching you to a
nonprofit’s Board of Directors or one of their
committees. In the event of a
disaster,
Volunteer San Diego is the source for information on
how to help relief and recovery efforts locally and
around the country.

Annual
Events
Martin Luther King Jr. Day – January
Every January, volunteers remember and memorialize
Dr. King by participating in service projects in
their communities. Agencies are encouraged to offer
volunteer projects during the holiday weekend and
San Diegans are invited to participate in Volunteer
San Diego’s annual service project
honoring Dr. King.
Global Youth Service Day – April
GYSD is the largest service event in the
world. Students age 5 -25 and youth groups are
encouraged to volunteer during this event.
It
promotes public awareness and education, highlights
the amazing contributions that young people make to
their communities, and supports and encourages youth
to begin on a life-long path of service and civic
engagement.
Serve-a-thon - October
Volunteer San Diego's Serve-a-thon (formerly known
as Hands On San Diego) is our largest annual,
service event. Each year, we focus on one issue and
provide educational components allowing community
members to learn about and openly discuss the issue,
community needs, viable solutions and ways to take
action. The 2009 focus was on the issue of poverty
with 42 projects, over three days, occurring
throughout the county.
Holiday Volunteer Guide
The holiday season is one of the busiest times of
the year for Volunteer San Diego. Each year,
Volunteer San Diego creates a Holiday
Volunteer Guide with volunteer opportunities from many
organizations throughout the county.
There are hundreds of ways for volunteers to make a difference
during the holiday season.
