Disaster Response Program
The Goal
The goal of Volunteer San Diego’s Disaster
Response Program is to connect volunteers with
organizations in need.
As a unique resource for volunteerism in San Diego
County, Volunteer San Diego has a strong volunteer
infrastructure that is proven, successful and ready
to respond. With national affiliations to the Points
of Light Foundation and Hands On Network and
membership in Volunteer Centers of California and
San Diego County’s VOAD (Voluntary Organizations
Active in Disaster), Volunteer San Diego is
perfectly positioned to both manage spontaneous
volunteers and support long-term recovery efforts
following any disaster.
Our Role in Disasters
Volunteer San Diego provides services to refer
volunteers immediately following a major emergency
or disaster. Our disaster response plan activities
include: - Coordinating with local emergency
response services to educate the public about:
- disaster response
- recovery process
- what can be
done to help
- Maintaining systems to route
volunteers to agencies providing response services
- Providing help to community organizations throughout
the recovery process
- Supporting efforts of
low-income, under-served communities to develop
disaster education and training programs
