San Diego Food Bank
1. Once the volunteer has
reached the address listed, where should he or she
go to find the group?
The lobby of the Food bank
2. What safety information and rules are
important?
No open toe shoes. If you have back problems
or any other injuries/disabilities, whether
temporary or permanent, be sure to let the Team
Leader know, as lifting is often times involved.
3. Is there a dress code?
Not really, other than no open toe shoes. The job
can be dusty/dirty so I wouldn't wear nice clothes.
4. What should a volunteer expect on their first
day?
They will be working next to other volunteers
packing boxes of food, or sorting through donated
food items.
5. What advice would a regular volunteer give a
newcomer?
Make friends. Talk to the people on either side of
you because they are all nice, and it makes the time
go by quickly.
6. What makes a volunteer successful at this
project?
The Food Bank is a popular project. We get a lot of
regulars because people like attending this project.
Up to 40 people can attend a project at one time so
there are a lot of people. Getting to know even one
or two other volunteers makes the experience that
much more to look forward to.
7. Is there any other information the volunteer
needs to know?
If they like the project and and want to come with
friends and/or co-workers, they can set up their own
individual project directly with the Food Bank. They
accept volunteers 6 days of the week.
