Orientations and Training Back To Main

In addition to Finding Volunteer Opportunities, visitors to this site also have the opportunity to search for Orientations and Training Courses (referred to collectively as “Courses”). Volunteer San Diego offers many orientations and several types of trainings throughout the year.

Flexible Volunteer Program (Flex) Orientation
Who:

Anyone aged 16 or over, who would like to participate in fun, meaningful volunteer opportunities, outside of business hours, as their schedule dictates

What:

45 minute orientation (required for enrollment in Flex)

Where:

Locations throughout the county

When: Offered 8 times per month

Nonprofit Orientation
Who:

Existing nonprofit partners or nonprofit organizations who are interested in learning more about Volunteer San Diego’s programs and services

What:

Opportunity to learn more about us, meet our team, ask questions specific to your organization and gain valuable information on effective volunteer recruitment

Where: Volunteer San Diego’s offices in Kearny Mesa
When: 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., 6 times per year

Volunteer Management Training (2 Days)
Who:

Volunteer Coordinators who are new to the field, or who have received little or no formal training in Volunteer Management

What:

This training (based on a nationally accredited curriculum) is aimed to equip volunteer managers with the knowledge and skills that are critical to the success of any volunteer program

Where: Kearny Mesa
When:

8:30am – 4:30p.m., 3 – 4 times per year

Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute (6 Days)
Who:

Students attending high school in the 2005 – 2006 academic year

What:

A state-of-the-art training program designed to teach leadership and community service skills to high school age students

Where: San Diego, location varies
When: Twice per year

Service-Learning 101 Training
Who:

Educators interested in incorporating service into their teaching curriculums

What: Workshop content varies
Where: San Diego, location varies
When: Several time per year

Customized Training
As the premiere resource for volunteering in the county, Volunteer San Diego is able to provide customized training and technical assistance on all aspects of Volunteer Management, Employee Volunteering and Service Learning. How to find courses, orientations and training

  1. Log in

  2. Select “Orientations and Training” from the left hand menu bar

  3. Select “Course Calendar” (you may also use Browse or Search Courses, but we find this method most effective)
  4. Apply any Filters / Attributes (View full list of filter definitions)
  5. Click on the course you are interested in for more information

  6. Dependent upon the course, you will have the choice to either:
    1. Sign me up – Certain courses will allow you to sign up for a specific orientation or training on our website

    2. Sign my team up – Sign up you and members of your team (if you have one). See “How to Create a Team” for more information

    3. Have agency contact me – If online sign-up is not available, you can request that the agency contacts you directly with more information

  7. You will receive a confirmation email which contains all of the information you should need, including contact information for the host agency

Tip – all courses (including orientations and training) you are signed up for will be listed in the “My Projects” section in the Member Center (available at all times from the left hand menu bar). Use the Member Center to view details of projects and courses you are signed up for, manage your team, or remove yourself from projects or courses.
