Typical Project Task Descriptions


If you feel you need accommodations (e.g. sign language interpretation, alternative formats for written materials, accessible facilities, special tools) in order to participate in Hands On San Diego as a volunteer, please e-mail rmohr@volunteersandiego.org or call (858) 636-4125.

Our volunteers will be asked to perform a variety of different tasks at places such as non-profits, schools, community centers and parks. In general, the tasks will be fairly simple, requiring little skill or training. For example:

Painting Tasks

Volunteers MIGHT be asked to utilize –

  • paint brushes or rollers
  • paint cups or buckets
  • masking tape
  • extension poles
  • ladders
Volunteers MIGHT have to –
  • reach above their heads
  • stoop to the ground
  • lift medium heavy objects

Gardening Tasks


Volunteers MIGHT be asked to utilize –
  • rakes, hoes, shovels, brooms
  • hand trowels, hand cultivators
  • pruning shears, hedge trimmers
Volunteers MIGHT have to –
  • reach above their heads
  • stoop to the ground
  • lift medium heavy objects

Interactive Tasks

Volunteers MIGHT be asked to utilize –
  • scissors, glue, rulers, tape
  • books, chalk, pencils and pens
Volunteers MIGHT have to –
  • supervise children
  • assist in explaining arts and crafts tasks
  • participate in arts and crafts tasks

Cleaning Tasks

Volunteers MIGHT be asked to utilize –
  • trash grabbers, trash bags
  • cleaning products, sponges, rags
  • brooms, mops, dust pans, buckets
Volunteers MIGHT have to –
  • reach above their heads
  • stoop to the ground
  • lift medium heavy objects
