Volunteer San Diego, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, directs capacity-building programs and services that engage volunteers in working hand-in-hand with nonprofit agencies to develop strong and vibrant communities.

Our History

Originally known as the Volunteer Center of San Diego County, the organization was administered as a division of United Way from 1969-1999.  In 2000, it became an independent nonprofit. To better serve local volunteers, The Volunteer Center of San Diego County and San Diego Cares merged into Volunteer San Diego in 2002.

Volunteer San Diego creates lasting community impact through meaningful individual and group volunteer action.

How We Do It
Volunteer San Diego achieves its mission by :

  • mobilizing volunteers to make a difference in their communities
  • assisting community organizations and businesses in developing successful volunteer programs that offer meaningful, effective volunteer opportunities
  • promoting the power of volunteerism and community service
