Our History Originally known as the Volunteer Center of San Diego County, the organization was administered as a division of United Way from 1969-1999.  In 2000, it became an independent nonprofit. To better serve local volunteers, The Volunteer Center of San Diego County and San Diego Cares merged into Volunteer San Diego in 2002. Our Mission Volunteer San Diego creates lasting community impact through meaningful individual and group volunteer action.
