Days of Service

A Day of Service is a chance to join the millions of volunteers from across the globe volunteering to make a difference. A single day of service can grow into an ongoing habit of helping communities.

January

Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday
Theme: Make it a day on…not a day off!
The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Service Day helps keep Dr. King's legacy of service to others alive in communities across the country.

March

Cesar Chavez Day
California has established an official state holiday to honor Latino labor leader Cesar Chavez. Cesar Chavez Day is intended to promote service to the community in honor of Chavez's life and work. This day is celebrated on March 31st, in honor of Chavez's birthday, or the appropriate Monday or Friday nearest that date. 

April

National Volunteer Week
Theme: Inspire by Example
National Volunteer Week empowers people of all ages, highlighting their ongoing contributions to their communities and mobilizing their energy, commitment, and idealism through sustainable service.

National & Global Youth Service Day
National & Global Youth Service Day (N&GYSD) is the largest service event in the world, engaging millions of students and caring adults like you! You can volunteer with Volunteer San Diego or create your own project.

May

Join Hands Day
Theme: Youth and Adults Volunteering Together
The Join Hands Day of Service brings young people together with adults to create new and better relationships by working as a team within their own neighborhoods.

August

Community Build Day
The Financial Services Roundtable assigns this day to be the physical manifestation of what its member companies do all year to build the communities they serve.

September

My Good Deed Day – September 11th
My Good Deed Day honors the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks on America through a voluntarily observed national day of service, charity and compassion.

October

Kids Care Week (culminates in Make a Difference Day)
Theme: Celebrate Kids Making a Difference in their Community
The National Kids Care Week is dedicated to recognizing the power of kids to reach out and help others in their local community. During the week, young people focus their compassion on a specific social issue through a service project.

Make a Difference Day
Theme: A National Day to Help Others!
The National Make a Difference Day of Service is intended to inspire and reward volunteers.

November

National Family Volunteer Day
Theme: Time Together – Time to Act
The National Family Volunteer Day of Service calls families across America to work together in volunteer service to strengthen their families, communities, local businesses and non-profit organizations.

Seasons of Service, sponsored and promoted by the Points of Light Institute, is a portfolio of national opportunities for people to volunteer for service projects and activities throughout the year.
