As the California Department of
Education’s regional Service-Learning lead for San
Diego County, Volunteer San Diego provides a variety
of resources for educators, students, and agencies
throughout the county who are interested in
integrating community service and volunteerism into
their curriculum and programs.
What is Service-Learning?
Service-Learning enables students to learn through
experience and grow through active participation in
thoughtfully organized opportunities. It blends
meaningful service to the community with specific,
outcome based program components that facilitate
learning and build academic skills.

Stories of Service
Stories of Service is dedicated to teaching young
people to serve their communities by helping
preserve the memories of our nation’s veterans and
everyday community heroes. Veterans, students and
volunteers work together to create Digital Stories -
mini-movies - that preserve the historical legacy of
our country while passing on priceless lessons about
courage, sacrifice and service to future
generations. Nearly 2000 veterans pass away each
day, and now local students can take an active role
in capturing the amazing stories of these men and
women. Learn more
Service-Learning Grants
