As the California Department of Education’s regional Service-Learning lead for San Diego County, Volunteer San Diego provides a variety of resources for educators, students, and agencies throughout the county who are interested in integrating community service and volunteerism into their curriculum and programs.

What is Service-Learning?
Service-Learning enables students to learn through experience and grow through active participation in thoughtfully organized opportunities. It blends meaningful service to the community with specific, outcome based program components that facilitate learning and build academic skills.

Resources for Educators
Volunteer San Diego is committed to supporting all educators utilizing Service-Learning as a teaching method both in and out of their classrooms. Free Service-Learning workshops, networking opportunities, Service-Learning grants and newsletters and access to curriculum are just a few of the resources available through Volunteer San Diego. Stories of Service
Stories of Service is dedicated to teaching young people to serve their communities by helping preserve the memories of our nation’s veterans and everyday community heroes. Veterans, students and volunteers work together to create Digital Stories - mini-movies - that preserve the historical legacy of our country while passing on priceless lessons about courage, sacrifice and service to future generations. Nearly 2000 veterans pass away each day, and now local students can take an active role in capturing the amazing stories of these men and women. Learn more

Volunteer San Diego awards grants of up to $500 to support projects connecting meaningful service with learning objectives. Learn more
