Make it a Day On... Not a Day Off!
|
Initiated by Congress in 1994, King Day of Service
builds on the legacy by transforming the federal
holiday honoring Dr. King into a national day of
community service grounded in his teachings of
nonviolence and social justice. The aim is to make
the holiday a day ON, where people of all ages and
backgrounds come together to improve lives, bridge
social barriers, and move our nation closer to the
“Beloved Community” that Dr. King envisioned.
Exciting Announcement: President-Elect Obama
and Vice President-Elect Biden and their families
have both committed to serving on the Martin Luther
King, Jr. Holiday. To learn more, click

Hannah's
House Renovation
For Martin Luther King Day, a day of
national service, the SAVY Leaders of 2008-2009 are helping an organization
called Hannah’s House. Hannah’s house is a place
where supervised visitations and exchanges of
children between divorced/ separated/ non married
parents can occur safely. SAVY is assisting Hannah’s
House because of the need to update their facilities
as a result of the growing demands for their
services. Over the years, the Hannah’s House
facilities have deteriorated and become too
difficult to maintain. It is SAVY’s mission to help
repaint, refurbish and restore Hannah’s House so
that it can be evolved into an even more welcoming
haven for children and parents alike.
Who Can Volunteer: ANYONE! We will even
have a kid’s corner, where children can do service
projects too!
When: Monday January 19, 2009
Time: Registration: 8:30 AM

Why Volunteer?
Renovating Hannah's House is a life changing
opportunity where one is able to give back to those
less fortunate. This is a chance for parents to
teach their young ones and for young ones to teach
their parents the meaning of working together and
giving back.
