Serve-a-thon Site Captain Meeting

Agency: Volunteer San Diego

Description: Volunteer San Diego is excited to announce we are recruiting Site Captains for Serve-a-thon 2010. There is much to be done, and your help and leadership are needed!

Are you "Captain" material?

If you are motivated, have (or want to gain) great leadership skills, have a desire to give back to the community, can inspire people and want to have some fun…then Volunteer San Diego is looking for you!
We are in need of Site Captains to lead projects for our county-wide event, Serve-a-thon, October 8-9.

What is Serve-a-thon?

Volunteer San Diego’s Serve-a-thon (formerly known as Hands On San Diego) is an annual fall event that mobilizes thousands of volunteers from employee teams, military, school, church and family groups as they strengthen their communities and complete projects throughout the county over two days (October 8-9, 2010). This year’s focus is on education in San Diego where participants will learn about and openly discuss the issues, community needs, viable solutions and ways to take action through service.

What should a Site Captain expect?

Site Captains will be placed at each Serve-a-thon project, work in small groups, and serve as VSD representatives and liaisons with the community organization staff. As a Site Captain, you will help plan and manage the project, coordinating project tasks, verifying supplies, managing volunteer teams and solving minor problems as they arise. Site Captains are truly the backbone of this event; we couldn't do this without you!

What kind of support do Site Captains receive?

Experienced VSD staff members will be there to guide you every step of the way and plenty of training will be provided. This is a great way to develop yourself as a leader! Each project needs a Site Captain - or two. Bring a buddy, a family member or a co-worker to be your co-captain! The more the merrier, easier and more enjoyable! You can give back to your neighborhood while sharing the experience with the people in your community.
