Description:
Celebrate the first official World Ocean Day!
San Diego Coastkeeper, Birch Aquarium, San Diego Oceans Foundation and Think Blue
It’s official! The United Nations has declared June 8th as World Oceans Day. Celebrate the first “official” World Ocean Day in La Jolla with San Diego Coastkeeper, Birch Aquarium, San Diego Oceans Foundation and Think Blue on Sunday June 7th!
Come help us to honor the ocean with a full day of events! Join us for a morning beach, kayak, and dive clean up. Have fun learning about the special creatures found in our local marine waters, and make a difference in your community and our global ocean with a few short hours.
The celebration continues in the afternoon at Birch Aquarium. Two special guests, author and musician Joel Harper, and recycled material artist Dianna Cohen, will engage audiences as they share messages of ocean conservation and positive action during scheduled readings of All the Way to the Ocean and recycled art craft stations. Birch will also be hosting a special World Ocean Day Kelp Dive Show, the Junko Plunko trash game, a movie screening, and a scavenger hunt to discover how Scripps researchers are studying the ocean.
We hope you will join us for this important and fun-filled celebration of our ocean!
